Chrisman & Sara Persico

Kampala-Berlin Residency

Chrisman is one of the rising stars of the new electronic scene in Congo, his tracks tearing down the boundaries between gqom, tarraxinha, soukous and Afro house. With his first EP »Ku Mwezi« released in November 2021, the producer, rapper, DJ and songwriter gained international attention. His first full-length album »Makila« is a personal musical exploration full of minimalist, multi-layered beats and tarraxinha sounds. In his bass-heavy DJ sets, Chrisman champions Afrocentric sounds with international influences ranging from São Paulo to London.

Sara Persico started testing the waters at an early age in Naples’ experimental underground scene. Later, the sound artist, singer and DJ combined her voice with analogue electronics, field recordings and samples. Now based in Berlin, she performs at international festivals and works as an improviser and performer with artists such as Elvin Brandhi, Andy Moor from The Ex and Tony Elieh. She was also a member of Evelyn Saylor’s vocal ensemble for Caterina Barbieri’s acclaimed show »light-years« at the Rewire Festival. Her solo debut EP »Boundary« radiates all the energy she has harnessed in recent years.

These two artists have teamed up to create an exclusive show for Pop-Kultur 2023 as part of the Musicboard’s Kampala-Berlin Co-Creation Residency.
