Gloria de Oliveira: »Serẽa«
»Serẽa« is the old Galician-Portuguese word for siren – or mermaid. In her Commissioned Work, Gloria de Oliveira conjures a sort of dreamlike voyage of discovery into the world of antiquity. The mythical relationship between water, women, moon and music is thoroughly explored and researched. In the process, Gloria de Oliveira and her fellow musicians not only use instruments that seem to come from nature – such as the lyra harp, the flute and the acoustic guitar – but also their voices and bodies. This is how they set off on a voyage into a special musical world of images, accompanied by new interpretations of »mermaid music«, spanning bossa nova, fado, art songs of the 19th century, folk songs from the British Isles and much more.
