»Im Morgen wächst ein Birnbaum« (De)
»I am more than the projection of others,« writes Fikri Anıl Altıntaş in his debut novel »Im Morgen wächst ein Birnbaum« (»Tomorrow a Pear Tree Grows«) – a personal, unsparing, touching book about his life, his masculinity and his identity in which he takes a radically honest look back at himself and his family history in order to better understand the present. Fikri Anıl Altıntaş grows up as the son of Turkish parents in a small town in Hesse. His father works as a Turkish teacher, his mother as a cleaner. Amidst blocks of social housing, his childhood is marked by the urgent desire to be »German« and the bitter disappointment about the reality in Germany. The longing to be seen and to find his own way as a Turkish, Muslim man is constantly mounting. Ultimately, it is his relationship with his father that confronts him with the questions: What does masculinity mean at all, and how can it be understood and lived beyond the clichés?
At Pop-Kultur, the author will discuss these and more with journalist and podcaster Miriam Davoudvandi.
