J. Vague tries out musical styles and eras like others try out new outfits – preferably combining noughties references and contemporary sounds with grand gestures. Behind the stage name is Joshua Gottmanns, a multidisciplinary artist with a poppy past (as a member of the bands Beat! Beat! Beat! and Oracles) who turned his back on the music industry in a state of disillusionment. But the music in his heart couldn’t simply be turned off. So he’s back, having found a new home in media art and sculpture as well as experimental music. If nothing else, he’s simply a pop star with a stunningly soft voice. On his current album »Silver«, he sings in search for a sense of belonging – »no matter if it’s about a place, a person, a situation or a state,« as he puts it. »It’s always about a sense of longing.«
