The two members of the band Junior Boys can be seen up to their stomachs in front of a grey house wall. The white man on the left with a high forehead, brown short hair, full beard, band T-shirt and open red and blue checked shirt under a clay-coloured jacket is looking directly into the camera; to his right is a white middle-aged man with dark brown hair, shorter beard, wearing a black T-shirt and black jacket. He looks out of the picture to the right in the direction the two men are walking.

Junior Boys

Canadian duo Junior Boys are known primarily for their punchy, R&B-heavy dance tunes. But their sixth album »Waiting Game« – released in 2022 via Berlin label City Slang, six years after their previous LP »Big Black Coat« – sounds completely different. On it, the two producers Jeremy Greenspan and Matt Didemus aka the Junior Boys show themselves in a tender and contemplative mood. This is perhaps also due to the contributing guests: Caribou collaborator Colin Fisher plays saxophone throughout, and Bonjay frontwoman Alanna Stuart sings a duet with vocalist Greenspan. The result is, in times of noise, a very quiet album, reflecting an underlying peaceful beauty of the world – provided that you’re prepared to really listen. But of course that’s not to say that you can’t dance to it as well.
