Young, Asian woman looks into the camera. Mulay sits with her leg propped up, on which she rests her right elbow and tilts her head in her hand. Her right arm clasps her leg. She has draped her seemingly otherwise naked body in cream-coloured brocade fabric, skin peeking out at her leg, shoulders and décolleté. She wears her long blond-grey hair pulled back with thin fringes fixed to her forehead. In the background, light-coloured fabrics are hung with ropes and chains. The whole picture looks monochrome.

Mulay

Mulay is an alternative R&B singer-songwriter, producer and – this needs to be emphasised – artist. That’s because not only with her music but also in her videos, fashion and performances, she dives deep beneath the surface to illuminate the corners and edges of the soul. Exploring complex emotions such as shame and guilt, she confronts inner conflicts and painful experiences only to draw transformative power from them. With her emotive voice, expressive lyrics and a downtempo sound heard in songs like »See Me«, the Berlin-based artist takes her fans on a journey through the depths of their subconscious, helping them face and overcome their own weaknesses. In her concerts, which are something like an audiovisual artistic performance, Mulay paints a landscape of reflective surfaces that allow you to recognise your multifaceted self.
