»Schwarze Adler«
»Schwarze Adler« tells the story of Black national football players in white DFB jerseys. The almost 100-minute documentary by Torsten Körner describes the path they took before they arrived to the sound of cheering. Accompanied by rarely seen archive images, often as unexpected as they are disturbing, Black national team players – from Erwin Kostedde to Jimmy Hartwig to Steffi Jones, from Gerald Asamoah to Patrick Owomoyela and Cacau to Jean-Manuel Mbom – describe their experiences on and off the pitch. Their stories and those of other Black players from the Bundesliga not only tell of what it means to be the target of racist hostility in packed stadiums and in front of millions watching on TV; they also shed light on how the public, the media and German society deal with the issue of racism and how this approach is only barely starting to change.
