The one on the left with a grey turtleneck jumper looks expressionlessly into the camera, the left half of his face is illuminated by light, the right lies in shadow. The one on the right in a black long-sleeved shirt and short hair looks at the one on the left from the side. He holds his hand in front of his face in a gesture where his index finger and thumb touch.

The Düsseldorf Düsterboys

The Düsseldorf Düsterboys are Peter Rubel and Pedro Goncalves Crescenti. But the way they tenderly pass the words to each other over their guitars, taking turns quite effortlessly, full of love for the music, switching from lead vocals to the harmony part and back again – it all sounds so much bigger than just two people playing a few songs for us. Seemingly without a care in the world, the musicians – actually from Essen – let us in on their associative leaps from casual descriptions of everyday life to beautiful poetry, touching on everything from pillow talk to metaphysics. Outernational pop with influences that span folk music, tropicalismo, church hymns, the anti-folk movement of the early noughties and good ol’ Velvet Underground. Sometimes all of these together in one song! At the very least, all of them in one concert.
