»Tor zur Freiheit« (De)
For human rights activist Tuğba Tekkal, migration and football are closely linked. The former professional footballer and founder of the multi-award-winning human rights organisation HÁWAR.help e. V. and the associated empowerment project »Scoring Girls« will read from her autobiography »Tor zur Freiheit«. It tells the story of a great passion for sports, but also of exclusion, confinement, discrimination and, again and again, overcoming boundaries. Because Tuğba Tekkal has never given up. As the seventh of eleven siblings in a Yazidi-Kurdish family, she was unstoppable – during challenging school years, on the football field and later as a professional footballer in the stadiums. Nowadays, through her work in human rights activism, she creates special sites of community and cohesion, with a particular focus on helping girls and women find their paths towards liberation. This talk will be hosted by journalist and presenter Maria Popov. Born in Bulgaria, she grew up in Mönchengladbach, is part of the »Auf Klo« team at funk, hosts the digital youth culture conference Tin Con, the news podcast »Stand der Dinge«, and shoots documentaries and reports.
