Das Kinn

The sound of Das Kinn (The Chin) most closely resembles the ghost of Falco trapped in your closet, doing his daily power-yoga routine. Or maybe a strange but consistent mix of post-punk, new age and the sound of an angry dog. But one thing is for sure: Das Kinn is the latest project by Frankfurt-based Toben Piel, who has been walking on untrodden sonic paths for almost two decades now – be it with the synth-hardcore band Antitainment, the performance duo Les Trucs, as FM Aether creating tape collages, as co-owner of the label MMODEMM or in his work for theatre and radio. Contour-sharp and shape-shifting, Das Kinn oscillates between the poles. Spanning tension and release, post-punk and kraut, electronic and art-rock. In major or minor, hiccuping or singing, Das Kinn lashes out against the vulgarity of mortality.
