That’s right, it’s time! From 30th August to 1st September, Berlin’s Pop-Kultur festival is taking place across the various venues of the Kulturbrauerei. We’ve assembled a dazzling lineup of around 120 concerts, commissioned works created especially for the festival, talks, readings and films. Among the highly anticipated acts are Sho Madjozi, Anika, The Düsseldorf Düsterboys, Kwam.E, Charlotte Brandi, T’neeya, Fishbach, Junior Boys, Lola Marsh and Fuffifufzich.
Tickets are still available here – whether as a three-day festival pass or as day tickets for Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. You can find the timetable here.
In anticipation of next year’s European Championship, this edition of our festival will also focus on football as a pop-cultural phenomenon: »Can I Kick It? Yes, You Can!« is a free programme interactively dealing with the sport from queer-feminist and post-migrant perspectives. This will include a talk with Claudia Roth, Minister of State for Culture as well as chairwoman of the supervisory board of Stiftung Fußball & Kultur EURO 2024 gGmbH, which is coordinating the EC’s cultural programme; Dauaride Empere, co-founder of the CSV Afrisko Berlin association, which is also the subject of an exhibition at the festival; as well as well as Josephine Henning and Tülin Duman, members of the programme council for the EURO 2024 cultural programme. Together, they will discuss the socio-political aspects of football along with the roles of diversity, participation and anti-racism in the UEFA EURO 2024’s arts and culture programme.
Another highlight of »Can I Kick It? Yes, You Can!« is the workout performance by Joana Tischkau and Elisabeth Hampe: »Colonastics« is the world’s first fitness programme that draws solely from the physicality of White cultural practices. To participate, please register in advance:
Colonastics – Fit for Fans
Bawling, barbecuing, boozing and balls! If you’re a true »Ultra« (a football fanatic), you know how exhausting football fan life is. The Fit for Fans workout offers you the perfect pre-season preparation. Register for the workout here.
Colonastics – We Will Rock You!
Have you always dreamed of strutting up and down the stadium stage like Jagger? Or longed to wallow in despair like Jon Bon Jovi, or headbang your brains out at Wacken? Then this »rockout« is just the thing for you. Register for the workout here.
You can also check out the Frannz club’s outdoor stage free of charge – supported by Thomann. Here we are pleased to feature artists from the »Pop-Kultur Nachwuchs« and Goethe Talents programmes. From the Nachwuchs, singer and producer Soffie combines complex compositions, thoughtful lyrics and vocal skills; the indie rock/post-punk sound of SCHRAMM is melancholic, kitschy, romantic and danceable; and LISA UEBEL & Solar Powered Moon Town invites you to go wild to their Neue Deutsche Welle stylings. The Goethe Talents span beatbox art from Kenya to queer rap poetry from Tanzania to indie guitars from Myanmar, which they will further present at their own showcase at Acud Macht Neu on 2nd September.
But before that, we’ll see you at the Kulturbrauerei on Wednesday! We look forward to your presence and to Pop-Kultur 2023!
